Are you looking for a writing challenge for your class? Look no further than the 100 Word Challenge.

Each week the 100WC team post a written or picture prompt to inspire young writers under 16. Once complete, the written pieces are then posted on either a class or student blog and linked to the 100WC blog.

Why this challenge? It promotes writing due to the comments received from the 100 Word Team who are located all over the globe. It is so exciting for students to read positive feedback from others on their work. They are also encouraged to write comments for their peers. We have linked this challenge to our Seven Steps to Writing Success program that we run in our school. Each week students are encouraged to include one of the steps in their writing.

A selection of entries are posted on the Special Showcase page on the 100WC blog each week. We were very excited to have two of our students showcased earlier this year.

The 100WC team also run another challenge for students that places less emphasis on the word count. The Five Sentence Challenge is designed to meet the needs of emerging writers.
